	My Role:

	From concept to installation I was the design lead for the project. It was my job to help facilitate concept brainstorming sessions with partner teams, our internal team, and the client. I also oversaw two junior designers to complete work for important project milestones. I also advised on content development for each of the interactive exhibits.

	Gateway to Asia:


Starting as the first experience visitors engage with during their visit, we created a palette cleanser that would help visitors leave their assumptions of Asian countries at the door. The goal was to show visitors how similar their home of Houston was to each country in small digestable ways.&#38;nbsp;
Many visitors’ favorite feature of the interactive was the ability to compare the size of Texas to the country they were viewing to help contextualize scale and distance in a way they were more familiar with.

	Gathering Table:
	While brainstorming in a concepting session with our partner team, a colleague shared her experience growing up as a Chinese American and her classmates at lunch being grossed out by the packed lunch her mother made her each day and not wanting to trade snacks.
We all agreed that we wanted to create an experience about Asian and Asian American food to help stop children from finding other cultures’ foods gross and weird but see how similar they are to foods they love or taste similar.
In this free exploration interactive, visitors put together a lunch box containing various snacks, dishes, drinks, and desserts from Asian, Asian American, and Houstononian culture. Once selected, each food has a information on the pronunciation, flavors, and a QR code that can be scanned to find that food locally in Houston for people to try. Visitors are also shown a menu of smiliar foods they can easily swap between to see foods that might interest them.

	Train to Asia:
	We wanted the next experience to be “transportive” and so we designed a magical bullet train that would show visitors famous landscapes and landmarks of each country as if gazing through a train window as a local conductor would provide commentary. In each country the train would make “stops” at particular landmarks to focus on them.

	Songs of Asia:
	After being an observer of Asian and Asian American culture we wanted to create an experience where you could be a participant. We created a rhythm game where visitors play their drums together to match the drumming in songs that represented popular music genres from each country ranging from a Chinese lion dance to Korean kpop.
Each song also featured an animated music video that used historic and contemporary art to help visitors associate different cultural art styles with the country and music they were playing along to.
Each song was created by composing an accompanying midi file that would be converted to json to set the timings for notes to be spawned. This allowed us to control the complexity and difficulty of each level of the game without having to rely on the audio waveform to determine note timings.

	Explorer Stations:
	We created five mini museums that each featured a range of topics displayed in a unique way. We utilized shadow box collage with original art, audio panels that teach visitors pronuniciations of common words, and stereoscope holograms.&#38;nbsp;

	Mist of Intentions:
	As the last experience of the exhibit we wanted to create a place of contemplation and reflection. Inspired by the reflective mist water garden outside the space, we designed a transparent projection wall that would accumulate with the feelings, hopes, and anecdotes of the visitors on an existing glass wall.
In front of the wall were four kiosks that had visitors choose words from a list of values that best described them and then matched them with an Asia Society Game Changer who aligned most with their values. Visitors are then asked to respond to the prompt of day and their message joins the others on the wall. Visitors are then presented with a QR code with their typographic portrait, a video about their Game Changer, and further information about the Game Changer.
For visitors who aren’t at a kiosk, they can use their phone to scan a QR code featured in the room to make a mobile submission to the wall.

	Augmenting middle school education with interactive web comics and a educator resource site with content created by subject matter experts and real people.


	My Role:

	From concept to launch I was the design lead for the project. It was my job to direct the user experience, user interface, and branding of the two sites. I worked closely with a web developer to ensure the user experience and site map would provide a wholistic experience.

We built a web comic site that would offer original authentic stories about Asian American and Asian culture, history, and life. Each comic was written and illustrated in collaboration with artists whose nationalities matched the country being depicted to help create an authentic depiction of each culture.&#38;nbsp;
	Asia In the Classroom:
A sister site to the comics site that educators could use as a resource to augment and expand their lesson plans 

built on over a decade of classes and work done by Asia Society Texas across lectures, talks, summer programs, afterschool programs, and partnerships with universities now made available in a single location on the web.

	Stories that Go Beyond the Frame:
	Inspired by&#38;nbsp;Escaping Criticism by Pere Borrell del Caso and the frames of comic book panels, visually show the desire that the learnings and morals of the comics would transcend the frames of the comic and leave with the reader.

	User Profile:
Readers can create an account to collect badges, create shareable reading lists, and complete assignments through Google Classroom. Badges can be downloaded and used as stickers in most popular messaging apps.

	Shareable Reading Lists:
To reach a wider audience we added the ability for readers to create playlists of stories that could be shared to social media. This is also useful for educators to share assigned reading to their students. Readers can also see their progress through the list.

	Each comic has panels that readers can interact with to learn more about elements within them as well as answer questions based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) assesment tests. Educators can create assignments directly in Google Classroom for their students to complete for a grade as well to unlock badges for each comic.

	Digitizing a Physical Experience— 01
	

The ACE Centers have held over 130 workshops
with more than 1,500 participants around the
world since April 2018. To extend the capablilities of other offices that do not have the space for the bespoke engagements designed by Local Projects, ABB tasked Local Projects with creating the same experience but on an Ipad.

Components
	Local projects decided to focus on four core experiences in the ABB ACE experience:The Smart Pucks, Value Drivers table, Industry Focus table, and Disruptors table as they were the main showpieces of the ABB ACE experience.&#38;nbsp;


Value Drivers— 02


The Value Drivers immersive experience invites visitors to specify their industry and consider 
their business value drivers. Their choices connect them with animated case studies illustrating 
how ABB Ability™ solutions drive the realization of these values through real-world successes.

The  Reworked UI for Ipad
	The original UI was designed for a 16:9 LED screen without a touch interface.
The desire was to adapt the interface to a Ipad strictly in the vertical orientation. We chose to mimic the physical interface by using a radial menu and vertical sliders.&#38;nbsp;

providing a platform for interactive exploration of ABB Ability™ solutions in the broader 
context of a customer’s value chain.

The Reworked UI for Ipad
	The original experience utilized a map of an industrialized city featuring 3D printed models representing core industries that may be found in such a city.
As to not require a user to have the various models in their possesion I decided to instead create a grid of the industries that users could explore in screen space. The 3D models are the same as the ones used for the physical experience making it easy for visitors and experience leaders to transition to more indepth one-on-one conversations.

The Disruptors immersive experience visualizes this
connection, demonstrating ABB’s thought leadership and capacity to guide businesses through uncertain terrain to
successful, industry-altering solutions.

The Reworked UI for Ipad
	The disruptors table features a grid of 15 x 6 square LED screens each attached to hydrolic pistons that undulate based on a perlin noise field to represent the ever shifting landscape of the industries that ABB specializes in. Each collumn of the array features scrolling headlines that relate to news in various industries to show the constant stream of advancements that ABB is able to adapt to.
I felt it was important to 
 reference the physical properties of the physical experience, so I designed simplified 3D landscape of shifting blocks featuring ABB’s specializations that could be scrolled through in an intuitive way.


Smart Pucks— 05


	Smart Pucks represent ABB
Ability™ Solutions, Value Drivers,
and Technology Disruptors.

A tangible object allows customers to focus on otherwise abstract concepts. They also invite the configuration of
several ABB Ability™ elements together to help create
customized solutions. Each “puck” has a unique image that can be recognized by the ABB app and provide additional information. 
Many hours were spent on press to assure that each design was recognized by the applicaiton. Each puck’s design needed to have enough “feature points” for Apple’s ARKit to recognize it. This was challenging for the lighter pucks as there wasn’t enough contrast. I devised a series of filters and layers that would allow the puck to be within ABB’s brand guildlines and retain enough visual data that they would be recognized by ARKit.

Increasing Accesibility
	The Smart Puck experience was already an Ipad experience, though on its own app, that utilized AR so it was a natural solution to add to the digital ACE experience. Changes were made to allow the experience to be more accesible without an experience leader.

MANCHESTER UNITED: THE UNITED WAY Local Projects 
2020 — 2021
	The Manchester United: The United Way game space is an immersive football game that tells the story of the Manchester United Soccer Club’s rise to greatness using a karaoke like business model.
The game uses an array of IR cameras to track a football that has been coated in an IR reflective coating. A touchscreen featured in the back of the room is used to choose levels, send cheers to the main displays, and manage your reservation.


My Role:My role was to design the user interface based on wireframes provided, produce production ready assets, tweak and develop shaders and visual effects in Unity, and provide game design advice.

MANCHESTER UNITED: TRAIN TO WIN Local Projects 
2021 — 
	As a sequel experience to the United Way game, Local Projects was asked to create an immersive training experience that would be authentic to the principals of the Manchester United School of Soccer. This project is still in development.


My Role:My role was to lead the visual direction of the game, create animation tests, design visual effects graphs, design the UI, advise gamedesign based on my knowledge as a gamer, and design the visual environments the game took place in.

Run Trainingprogram.exeI wanted to utilize the fact that players are in a projection mapped room with a floor made of turf and not try to fool them into thinking they are in a simulation of a real place. I wanted to be fully transparent that the game is a “virtual reality” designed to test their abilities.
By being honest with the player they willingly suspend their disblief and accept the surreal environments and objectives that they are presented with. This allowed me to create environments made from iconic elements of Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium in a fantastical and unexpected way.

Begin Program: Train to Win
	The entire training program is designed to have the narrative that a super computer AI known as “The Cube” has absolute power in the game. Every kick, pass, goal, and juggle feeds The Cube data and it rewards the player with points and greater challenges.
The Cube has the ability to create and change the enviornments as it wills to test the player’s abilities. The Cube creates obstacles, targets, and challenges through its “powers.”

Visual Progressions
	Each Drill starts in a realistic environment and progresses into a surreal landscape as the player progresses using various elements of Old Trafford as the medium that creates them.

Here are some recent prototype videos in our staging site.


Making it “Juicy”
	A game lives and dies on its feedback animations. Keeping players engaged and having fun requires triggering their reward system through audio, animation, and gameplay. If any one element is lacking then the player won’t enjoy themself.
I spent time honing the animations for impacts and giving direction on the audio feedback and soundtrack for the game.

	UNSEENLocal Projects&#38;nbsp;
2019
	We are all travelers in the fascinating landscape
of life and journey down our own spiritual path. These paths are diverse and may twist and turn,
intersect, veer off course, or come full circle. Unseen is a safe space in this adventure. 
It is
a place to ask questions, discover ourselves,
and connect with fellow travelers to engage in open conversations. It equips us with the tools
we need to begin, or continue, our journey. It is a place where there is no wrong answer and inquisitiveness is a virtue.
This project resonated with me as someone who grew up in a religion that was accepting and inclusive of other’s personal beliefs. I wanted to help create a space where younger generations could learn that spirituality doesn’t necessarily require a strict adherence to a core set of beliefs.

	The Compass
	Each visitor receives a “compass” for their experience, which serves as the input device for
visitors to interact with media and build their profile. The compass metaphorically speaks to
spiritual navigation throughout the
constellations. Each interactive that vistors engage with records data to a RFID chip embedded in the compass to build a profile that they can interrogate and learn more from. The compass features a ring of magnets that not only provide a tactile feeling to using it as an input device but also transfer a radial signal to the interactives to control the UI.

Checking In
	

Visitors check in with a Unseen Guide. Visitors are then equipped with their compass device and oriented to its use and function throughout their Unseen experience. We wanted to create a more personal experience and opted to have the check-in desk be more user engaging than administrative by not having it behind a front desk.&#38;nbsp;


Identity Constellation— 02.0


Visitors enter a transportive space, a
stunning array of light. They build a spiritual profile by aligning with statements and answering questions about their relationship to self,
others, and God. With each question they answer, the visitor’s compass is updated and their sipirutuality is further solidified.&#38;nbsp;

Interrogating Your Values
	At the interactive stations visitors engage
in a series of profile-building activities. Each station invites visitors to explore their spiritual beliefs, values, and priorities when
it comes to their relationship with self,
others, and God.Visitor use their compass to respond to profile
questions by ranking preferences, selecting from multiple responses, etc.


	The Infinite Walk

	Visitors enter an immersive media environment,
which explores the scale, complexity, and
enormity of the cosmos and our place within it.
An awe-inspiring experience unfolds as time
and space dissolve while visitors travel on an
Infinite Walk.
The desire was to create a perfect circular space that visitors could walk through endlessly in an almost medititave state as they contemplate their role in the universe and our world.

Three Core Axis to Explore
	At interactive stations incorporated into the
seating, visitors use their compass to review
their profile. Visitors engage in reflection that further
facilitates a connection with God. Prompts are personalized based on each visitor’s spiritual
profile. This is where the motif of gradients I designed becomes informative. Each “axis” of spirtuality has a designtated color. The results of all previous interactives allows us to calculate where a visitor may fall on each of these axis.&#38;nbsp; An important goal was to not only show a visitor where they might fall on the religious specturm but as well teach them how they may be able to improve certain aspects of their faith.&#38;nbsp;


Connect

	Visitors leave the space of reflection and
proceed to the Connect space. Communal seating and anecdotal media offers an opportunity to relax and
discuss the experience with others. Visitors
can then explore the Stories Constellation and record their own stories.

about their relationships and connections with others. Visitors can pick from a curated selection
of recorded video stories that we believe may connect with their practices of spirtuality.Visitors watch and listen to the videos and
witness the compelling and emotionally resonant stories as expressed firsthand from a
wide variety of perspectives and demographic
backgrounds.

	Pace: Seeing PicassoLocal Projects&#38;nbsp;

Running from November 2019 - February 2020, Seeing Picasso was the first exhibition of Pablo Picasso's artwork in Palo Alto. Spanning the late 1890s to the early 1970s, the show highlighted Picasso's key breakthrough moments, which catalyzed a number of artistic movements and styles of the modern era. In collaboration with Line Break studio, we developed an augmented reality experience on iPad that helps guide visitors through the exhibition.

Contextualizing Never 
Before Seen Works— 01


The iPad app contextualizes each piece in the show. When viewed through the iPad camera, artwork is identified via image / object recognition. The Seeing Picasso app responds by displaying virtual artwork adjacent to the painting or sculpture in focus. Each additional image can be further investigated to provide more information.

Visitors are also treated to an audio narration from Picasso scholar Alexander Nemerov of Stanford University for each piece. Alexander Nemerov poetically describes the history, meaning, and significance of each piece breaking the initiation needed to appreciate Picasso’s work. I feel that the benefit of an experience like this is that it democrotizes art in a way that hasn’t been done before. There is a level of appreciation for art that can only be had after being immersed in it. By providing an audio narrated tour complete with additional refrences that a visitor can engage with at their own pace allows a truely beautiful level of accessibility.

Each augmented reality scene was constructed in Reality Composer and rendered with RealityKit. 
This approach allowed us to iterate while developing the experience and testing on-site at PACE.
